The Asian Shorts of Binisaya Film Festival is a showcase that embodies
our dedication to highlighting the rich tapestry of Asian cinema.
This specially curated selection has grown from its inception in 2014
into a vibrant competition segment,becoming an
integral part of our festival experience.
Pioneered by Keith Deligero and Aiess Alonso, the Asian Shorts program,
which later evolved into its own dedicated competition section,
has been a remarkable journey through the lens of Asian filmmakers.
Over the course of three years, a diverse array of award-winning Asian short films
have been carefully selected, hailing from countries such as
Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia,
Pakistan, Taiwan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and beyond.

Eligibility
The Binisaya Film Festival's Asian Shorts Section celebrates the vibrant cinematic storytelling from across Asia. To be eligible for consideration, submitted short films must meet the following criteria:
ORIGIN
The film must be produced in an Asian country or territory, or have a predominantly Asian production team.
The film must be produced in an Asian country or territory, or have a predominantly Asian production team.
DURATION
Films should have a maximum running time of up to 30 minutes, including credits.
LANGUAGE
Films must be primarily in an Asian language. Subtitled versions in English are strongly encouraged if the original language is not English.
GENRES
Films of all genres, including but not limited to narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, and more, are welcome.
Selection Criteria
Our selection process is designed to curate a diverse and engaging showcase of Asian short films that reflect the rich cultural tapestry of the region. Films will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
NARRATIVE EXCELLENCE
The strength of storytelling, character development, and overall narrative structure.
CINEMATIC INNOVATION
Creative and innovative use of visual and technical elements, including cinematography, editing, sound design, and visual effects.
CULTURAL RERPESENTATION
The extent to which the film authentically represents the culture, traditions, or societal issues of its origin.
EMOTIONAL IMPACT
The ability of the film to evoke emotions and resonate with the audience on a personal level.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY
Overall production quality, including acting, direction, production design, and overall execution.
ORIGINALITY
Uniqueness of concept, approach, or perspective that sets the film apart.
RELEVANCE
The film's relevance to contemporary or universal themes that can engage a diverse audience.
Submission Process
1. Filmmakers must submit their films through the Binisaya Film Festival FilmFreeway page.
2. Submissions must include a screener link, a brief synopsis, production details, and contact information.
3. Filmmakers will be notified of the selection results at least a week before announcement of program selection.
4. Please note that meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee selection, as our curatorial team aims to create a well-rounded and impactful program for our audience.
5. We look forward to showcasing the best of Asian short films at the Binisaya Film Festival's Asian Shorts Section and celebrating the diverse voices of Asian cinema.
